About courses

Courses on this site are of two types:

One-to-one live tutor based courses. You get two lessons per week, based on your payment, this can be a combination of:

  • Two tutor lessons weekly
  • Or; One tutor based lesson and one self study lesson.

It provides full access to structured course materials and tests, along with weekly tutor interaction, and messenger/text communications.

Self-study courses. Self-study is mostly, but not completely, tutor-less. You get two self study lessons per week, plus one of those lessons shall be a tutor based lesson, on a day and time of your choice. It provides the same access to course materials, as the above option, but with reduced tutor interaction, and is mostly messenger/text based communications. It is suitable for:

  • Trial lessons at a reduced cost.
  • Maintaining some level of contact with lessons whilst on holiday.
  • If you study elsewhere but need access to more Arabic/GCSE Arabic resources, and pre-planned lessons that you can access at anytime.
  • If you can’t afford the full cost of tutoring but want the materials, and some tutor support, available to you.

Which course?

If you are unsure whether you should be taking a foundation tier or higher tier course you have the option of taking an assessment first before you start. Assessments can be found on the main courses page, or you can take a 1-to-1 assessment with the tutor by filling out the contact form.

How long are the courses?

See individual courses for details. Some courses last less than a month whilst others last for several months. If you wanted to sample the site try one of the short courses first.

How do I register for a course?

Visit the courses page and select a course. Once you have done this you shall be asked to register your details to proceed with your application. Terms of service apply.

Enrolment steps

To sign up for a course, or assessment, on this site:

  • Visit the correct course overview page for the course that you’re interested in signing up for.
  • Once you are happy to continue with purchase of a course, or assessment, scroll down to the payment section, on the course overview page, and select the access button for the type of payment you wish to make.
  • After filling out your details, and checking you have selected the right course code, press the ‘buy now’ button. You shall receive an email and invoice regarding your course or assessment choice. Follow the instructions within emails relating to your choice.
  • After your application and payment have been processed you shall receive payment confirmation and see your item (course) appear on your dashboard. Click on your course, on your dashboard, to start. Then start reading the introduction (outline page).
  • If you experience any issues visit this help centre page again and read the relevant topic to solve the problem, or get in touch.

Enrolment and attendance

Enrolment and attendance on any of our courses, or marking lessons as completed, will not suffice as fulfilment of the course requirements. Genuine interactive participation, honest efforts, and completion of classwork, exercises, quizzes, and homework to a satisfactory standard are a must.

Late starters

If you’re a late starter, on any of the main courses, you may need to do extra lessons each week to catch up. This is the same if you go on holiday or need to take a break for a family matter. Once you have caught up you only need to revert back to your regular two lessons per week.

Usernames

Usernames should be the full name of the student, not the parent. Your account should be true, and correct as with any application, or registration. Your password should be kept safe so that no one else can access your account.

Copying

Some course recourses can be downloaded, or copied by students for personal learning use only. Resources may contain ADLS Language watermarks, or logo/s. Copying of other people’s work or your previous test answers are not allowed.

Attendance

These reminders are not only for new students.

Message your tutor in the chat area so that they know you are present and waiting.

Send a message between five and fifteen minutes before the lesson. Avoid calling the tutor as he may be finishing off another lesson.

Your message will also act as an attendance record, in the event of any misunderstandings requiring timeline proof.

Unless notified of a cancellation by your tutor, or the admin, your lesson shall go ahead as planned at the agreed time and date. We do not send lesson confirmations or reminders for each of your lessons.

Students should set reminders for each of their lessons, and rescheduled lessons, so as not to miss any of the lessons. This can be done if you have a phone, or other device, using various calendar apps or ask your parent/s.

Unless notified otherwise by your tutor; all homework should be sent a day (24 hours) before your lesson is due, at the latest.

You shall normally have up to six/seven days to complete homework.

If your lesson is due the next morning you should try to avoid sending homework the night before your lesson is due.

So for example if you normally have lessons on a Sunday morning your homework can be completed as follows:

  • On the same day that the homework was given.
  • Any day or evening during the week.

  • Saturday morning or daytime.

  • Saturday night should be avoided, as your lesson is Sunday morning.
  • If sent Sunday morning your homework may be marked as not received or late.

System grading

When you take a quiz on this site you shall automatically be graded by the site system based on your answers, and the minimum pass mark.

Past paper grading

If you take a GCSE course you shall at certain stages sit mock tests using past papers. These papers have their own mark grading system using mark schemes. Your tutor is familiar with the use of the mark schemes which shall be employed when marking writing, and reading papers etc.

Classroom grading

Your tutor may also use other exercises and systems to mark classwork and homework. You shall be informed about these by your tutor during the course of your studies.

Reports

The grades, and tutor remarks/feedback, can be found in the report/s issued by the tutor. You shall also see regular tutor feedback and marking sent in the chat portal.

What does my payment cover?

Your payment covers several areas, depending on the plan that you sign up for. It includes but is not limited to:

  • Access to course study materials, and account updates.
  • Access to your tutor experience, and knowledge.
  • The cost of tutoring:
    • Monthly overheads, such as site running costs.
    • Behind the scenes preparation and administration.
    • Tutor time: lessons, marking, and feedback/creation of reports.

Our rates are in line with fairest fees and are competitively priced. We aim to provide value for money by offering anytime course access. Courses, on this site, are structured so that you get more than just a 45/60 minute slot each week.

How do I make payments?

You shall receive instructions within your invoice and/or email. Payments can be made via Standing order, Stripe, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or manual bank transfer. Contact us if you need further information regarding setting up payment.

Can I make automatic payments?

Yes; you can make automatic stripe payments or monthly standing order payments, these will allow you uninterrupted access to course materials. Automatic payments mean that you never miss a payment date, so you don’t have to worry about access issues at the end of your payment cycle.

Monthly manual bank transfers are also accepted although access may be restricted until your payment has been received.

Payments in advance?

If you wish to make an early payment, within a few days of your invoice being sent out, you can do this. You may still receive an automatically generated payment reminder but you shall also receive a confirmation of your payment. We do not normally take advance payment of more than a month, unless detailed on the website or you have an agreed arrangement.

Do I receive an invoice?

Yes; invoices, as well as payment confirmations, are normally sent via email. You may occasionally also receive payment communications and confirmations via WhatsApp if we have your contact details. We do not normally send communications regarding payment via the tutor or within the chat portal.

Do missed lesson payments rollover?

As a general rule; any missed lessons, that have been agreed to be rescheduled, should be taken within the period covering payment. Lessons and/or payments do not rollover to the following month. There may be exceptions to this condition if the fault is a technical issue, etc, at our end.

What if my payment is late?

If a payment is late you, or your child, may not be able to access the course materials and/or lessons until payment has been received.

We often send out payment reminders so as to keep you updated, but you should also create monthly or weekly payment alerts, just in case. If you find manual payments, annoying, a little laborious or you’re prone to forgetting, and you’d rather not miss a payment, you can sign up for standing order or subscription payments.

Prompt sign-up and login.

Once you sign-up, and your registration has been acknowledged and accepted, promptly follow the instructions given by the admin in order for your enrolment to go as efficiently as possible. You will need to:

  • Make payment for the course.
  • Message the tutor using the chat feature.
  • Login to your dashboard to access your course, using the same login details use to sign-up.

If there are any issues you should then message the tutor first to let him know. This should all be done prior to the date and time of your first lesson, so as not to cause delays.

Password issues

I cannot access my dashboard because I cannot login!

  • You may have entered the wrong password. If you have entered the wrong password you can reset it and then check your email/junk mail for the reset link. If you cannot locate the reset link contact us to resolve this issue for you, with a temporary password which you will need to change later.
  • Always contact us as soon as you can if you have issues logging in. If you contact us outside of business hours you may have to wait until we reopen again, please bear with us.

Logging in and out

If ever there are any glitches in the system, such as logging in try to refresh the page, and then log back in again. You may have to try this step two or three times until you gain access, especially if you are new. Always login prior to lessons starting so you can resolve any potential issues before hand, and not waste too much time.

Module access

If ever you cannot access your module, try the previous step above, or use your browser history to see the last lesson you were on and access it from there. Let your tutor know a soon as possible if you are experiencing any issues. If you are new you will need to login regularly so as to avoid any glitches that newcomers may sometimes experience at first. Do not worry it’s not a major issue.

Payment panel

If you have already paid but you still see the payment panel on your course overview main page, instead of the instructor panel, try the above steps then inform your tutor prior to your lesson.

Quizzes

Quiz/test attempts are usually limited to two attempts, this is normally the same for assessments and courses.

Revision

At the end of each course module you should normally revise the whole module before taking a quiz.

Other revision

Before taking an assessment you may wish to revise some of your Arabic knowledge via a textbook, or listening material.

Past papers

When doing past papers during lessons:

  • Read the instructions on the page and in the paper before starting.
  • Do not mute your mic.
  • Do not use external resources, unless allowed by the tutor.
  • Do not look up or copy answers from a paper that you have done previously.
  • If possible; try not leave any question unanswered, where you have the time to answer. Always hazard a guess with multiple choice questions.
  • If you attempt a past paper outside of lessons you should do this under exam conditions.
    • Do not cheat, you shall only be cheating yourself, and it gives a wrong impression.

There are a few past papers posted on our main site which you can view using this link.

What you need

  • A quite space to complete the paper, without much distractions.
  • An exercise book to write down your answers.
  • Pen not pencil to write your answers.
  • You shall also need to send your answers to the tutor after completion of the paper.
  • Always write your name, the date, and lessons reference on your exercise book, for past papers or general lesson homework.

My School does not do GCSE Arabic

Your school does not need to teach or have GCSE Arabic on their curriculum. GCSE Arabic is an external language subject. You can can study it outside of school, using an experienced tutor, Arabic school or madrasah, then sit the exam at your school.

When do I register for the exam?

This is done with your school. Speak with your school in the first instance, and also your tutor for more information. Usually the deadline for exam registration is in February of each year, late entry may incur higher fees.

My school does not have an examiner

An external examiner is only required for your Arabic speaking paper. The remaining papers are sent to to your school. You will sit each exam on the day allocated by Pearson-Edexcel and your school. An external examiner can be had via us at ADLS Language or contact Pearson-Edexcel or your school. You can also sit the exam at another school of your choice where the examiner is not local to your school.

My school needs evidence of my Arabic level

We are happy to provide evidence of Arabic study for GCSE Arabic exams as well as other awards you intend to take, such as the Duke of Edinburgh (DofE).

Do you still operate during holidays?

Yes; both the administration and tutors usually work during holidays. This includes all type of holidays although tutors may take separate breaks either using the last week of five week months or at other times with advance notice given to students.

Can I take breaks for holidays?

Yes; you can pause your course to take short breaks for holidays etc. When you are ready you can restart from where you left off. Note that access to course materials may be restricted without payment.

Please note that unless some form of Arabic language engagement is maintained, during holidays, you may risk falling behind and forgetting some topics, lessons, and concepts. In the event that lessons are not maintained during holidays, having several weeks, we shall not be responsible for any impact that this may have on a student and their ability to catch up.

Subscription payments

If you make automatic payments via subscription / bank standing order you have two options:

  1. You may stop the subscription order for that period and restart it again when you return. You may need to stop this early so that a payment is not made whilst you are on break.
  2. You can continue your subscription and make up any missed tutor sessions, after your break, by rescheduling lessons with the tutor.

The month of Ramadhan

During the month of Ramadhan we normally continue to have lessons. You may opt to change the time of your lessons if the time for Iftar (breaking of fast) falls around the lesson time. If you prefer to take a break during Ramadhan you can make up lessons when you return, and have two lessons per week. This is counted as a rollover exception for payments made for missed/paused lessons during the month of Ramadhan, and Eid.

Part-time study

So that you do not miss out on lessons you have the option to continue part-time studies by making part payment, equilivant to half your normal lesson fee. This means you will still have access to continue modules, without your regular tutor slots. This allows you to keep up to date and not get left behind. To proceed with this alternative select the tutor-less option, on the payment panel, when attempting payment.

Emergencies

For all other emergencies where you need to stop temporarily or permanently get in touch with us, by email, as soon as possible.

Group classes

You can sign up for group classes at the beginning of the academic year, which runs from August/September. If you apply for a group class later than this you may not be able to enter, but this will depend on your ability as well as the tier/level that you wish to apply for.

How many in a group?

Group classes are usually a maximum of 3-4 students, and a minimum of 2 students.

How much do group classes cost?

This will also depend on the intensity/level of the class, the lower the level the less the cost. Check with the admin regarding pricing.

For specific information relating to your level, and duration get in touch with a member of the ADLS administration.

If for any reason you are dissatisfied with any aspect of the support that we provide please send us feedback in the first instance and check that you have followed all the steps within the emails, WhatsApp messages, and you have read the terms of service and help centre information on the website.

We cannot be held responsible if you have missed a step, not followed a procedure, not seen and/or read a notification/email, or delayed in taking action at a particular time when prompted.

Whatever service is requested, that we provide, we shall support the process as much as possible with information and links, guidance, and a tutor etc.

Tutors

If you have an issue regarding a tutor do let us know so that we may be able to resolve the issue or change a tutor where possible.

Thank you for your understanding.

Lesson content

Lessons vary in content and detail and you may often require the tutor to explain certain concepts, text or audio. We make no claim as to the completeness of lessons as most, if not all, modules shall require tutor explanation. Some courses are not 100% standalone nor fully tutor-less. • You take notes

  • Contact the tutor
